City Secretary

The city secretary is responsible for preserving and managing all city records, as well as coordinating requests for public information.

About the City Secretary

The city secretary posts public notifications about open meetings, including city council meetings, meetings of council-appointed boards and commissions, and other public notifications such as elections. The city secretary is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act.

Elections

The city secretary coordinates all city elections in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas. Those wishing to seek elected office should email the city secretary or call at (361) 528-3512 for candidate requirements and a schedule of the election process.

Open Records Request

The City of Taft has established guidelines in accordance with the Public Information Act (formerly Open Records Act) to ensure that all records in the possession of and pertaining to the operation of the governmental body are available to the public through a systematic and centralized process.

The city secretary has the authority to release records in accordance with the Public Information Act, Open record request for the Municipal Court, and Police Department can be sent to the city secretary and will be sent to the respective department director in each of those departments to be completed.
